Kangal Fikirchand- Kangal Fikirchand was the pseudonym adopted by Harinath Majumdar. Harinath Majumdar was known for his pioneering contribution in Bengal journalism and for championing the cause of the oppressed peasants of Bengal. Majumdar began his career in the Bengali daily news paper 'Sambad Prabhakar'. Later he founded his own newspaper, 'Grambarta Prakashika'. 'Grambarta Prakashika' was published weekly from Majumdar's village Kumarkhali, in Kushtia District, present day Bangladesh. Majumdar' through 'Gramvarta Prakashika' took up the cause of the riots trying to redress their grievances and confronting the local zamindars. Majumdar also was known for his connection to Lalan Fakir, the noted Baul Saint. It was with Fakir's influence Majumdar himself founded a Baul group named Kangal Fikirchand-r Dal or the group of the penniless Fikirchand.
The following selections have been made from the collection of Fikirchand's songs, compiled the Bengali author Jaladhar Sen. The compilation was published from Calcutta with assistance from the Maharaja of Barddhaman in 1916. The songs of Fikirchand highlights the plights and grievances of the riots or cultivators of Bengal.
