The table of market price of different species of Rice was prepared by Richard Becher on March 1769. Richard Becher was appointed as the resident of the East India Company at the Court of the Murshidabad Nawab, following the Grant of Diwani in 1765.
The document provides a picture of the price of rice in the districts of Purnea and Dinajpur, between years 1761 to 1769. The document is important for it provides an idea about the market price of different varieties of rice, just before the Famine of 1769-1770.
