Krishak-translation

About this text

Introductory notes

"Krishak" was a monthly journal published by the Indian Gardening Association from Calcutta. The journal patronised by the Bengal Government focused on news and practices pertaining to agriculture and farming. The Journal was edited by Nagendranath Swarnakar, a former professor of Mathematics at the City College, Calcutta. The selections for this file have been made from the journal's 6th Volume and 5th issue, which was published in September, 1905.

The following excerpts have been selected from three advertisements that were published in the issue of the journal. Two of these advertisements were published by two companies selling fertilizer, while the third one was promoting a newly developed husking pedal. These advertisements give a picture of the modern agricultural techniques which were being innovated in the early 20th Century to counteract various impediments in the cultivation process.
